Yomadic Iran Tour

iran tours esfahanYomadic Iran tours are for people who love the spirit of independent travel, and the camaraderie of a small group of travelling friends, but really wouldn’t enjoy a typical corporate group tour. Since 2014, we’ve proudly built a reputation for creating unique Iran journeys – and almost 30% of previous Yomadic trippers booked another adventure. Our Iran tours combine the best aspects of freestyle travel, wrapped inside a curated (but flexible) Iranian itinerary.

These are the best available small-gang Iran tours, and we would like to personally invite you to join us.

sibil coffee esfahan iranFrom Tehran to Shiraz, we’ll be sure to visit the big UNESCO heritage sights, and our local connections will also get you experiencing the real Iran… chatting with locals, exploring hidden café’s deep inside atmospheric bazaars, and checking out lesser-known (but totally incredible) places that don’t appear on other itineraries.

iran tours esfahanWe have comfortable private transport, but don’t mind the little adventures of catching a city-subway or shared-taxi. Our accommodation is independently owned, perfectly located, and handpicked – we’re chasing an experience, a good nights rest, great breakfast, and an interesting neighbourhood to explore day or night.

Nasir al-Mulk Mosque shirazRelaxed and friendly, you’ll have both local Iranian and Western guides – with up-to-date local insight and historical expertise. We’ll ensure you see the best of Iran, and have the freedom to explore and let Iran come to you. You’ll make the most of your time, but you won’t feel rushed…

iran tours
You, Iran, soon.

Yomadic Iran Tour Itinerary

The “Untour” was created to get you onto the best possible Iran journey. We want our Iran tours to be considered an “opportunity of a lifetime”, with an experience to match. This isn’t a corporate, cookie-cutter, “group-tour” – you’ll be with a small group of experienced and dedicated people who know Iran, will love their time as much as you, and, know how to plan and operate a journey. We minimise driving time, avoid airports and flights, and your accommodation is ALWAYS centrally located – the best of each destination within easy walking distance. We keep up-to-date with what’s happening in Iran, and take advantage of any special events that may be happening at the time you visit.  You’ll get to see far more than just the itinerary listed below…

Two nights – Tehran, Iran

Azadi Tower Tehran Iran Tour

Bustling, stylish, ancient, and modern. Your Persian journey commences here. We’ll get you lost in the enormous Tehran Grand Bazaar, admiring the modernist architecture of Azadi Tower, exploring UNESCO listed Golestan Palace, and dining in the cool foothills of North Tehran. Our connections will get you inside the former USA Embassy, AKA “The Nest of Spies”. Not only visiting the classic Tehran highlights, we’ll check out intriguing local neighbourhoods, and show you some of the secrets this enormous city holds. Many people avoid Tehran – and this is a mistake – Tehran is constantly evolving and changing, it’s a memorising city with a huge array of things to see and do, and we have enough time to show you the best from North to South.

In Tehran, you will stay at a modern, comfortable, centrally located hotel. On day three of your Iran tour, we’ll leave Tehran and travel to the city of Kashan – stopping in the city of Qom en route.

One night –  Qom, Kashan, Abyaneh, Iran

kashan bazar iran tour

We’ve been visiting Kashan since 2012, and it’s become our favourite small city in Iran. Hosting an incredible collection of historical sights, we’ll see inside the best of the classical local architecure, cool off in the oldest Persian garden in the world, explore the coolest Bazaar in Iran (above and below), and our serene accommodation will have you never wanting to leave. But, before we even arrive in Kashan, we’ll stop enroute for a private guided tour around the city of Qom – considered the birthplace of the Iranian revolution (and a great example of how we breakup our Iran journey, making the most of our travel time to see more). After Kashan, we’ll head high into the mountains to wander through Abyaneh – one of the oldest and most visually scenic villages you will ever see – famous for colourful head scarves and segregated door knockers. Uh huh.

In Kashan, your accommodation is a beautifully restored classical Persian building (with an unbelievably great chef), and the owner will donate all profits to local orphanages. Win/win. On the morning of day four, we’ll continue our journey heading south to the city of Isfahan.

Two nights – Isfahan, Iran

Imam Mosque, Esfhan Iran

Third largest city in Iran, home of “Gaz” (Persian nougat, oh yes), and the unbelievably magnificent Naghsh-i Jahan Square, Isfahan is known as “half the world”. There’s simply so much to do here – visiting the architecturally perfect Shah Mosque, listening to classical Persian songs underneath Khaju bridge, strolling the varied neighbourhoods, getting plenty of relaxing hang-time with the hugely friendly locals. You’ll soon discover why Isfahan is one of the favourite cities of all Iranians, and it’s around this time of the tour you’ll start thinking you won’t want to leave Iran.

In Isfahan, we will occupy the majority of a well-maintained, very central, apartment building. You’ll really feel like a local with your very own Persian apartment a short walk to the main square. Each morning, a hot breakfast including freshly squeezed juice and coffee delivered to you, at the time of your choice. The morning of day six sees us leave Isfahan behind, and we’ll make our way to the desert city of Yazd.

Two nights – Yazd, Kharanaq, Iran

iran tour - view minaret yazd

Heading further towards the South of Iran, we’ll arrive in the desert city of Yazd, and settle into our own UNESCO-listed neighbourhood. Exploring the enticing lane-ways, wandering around historical mud-constructed buildings topped with architecturally stunning “wind-catchers” – (ancient air-conditioners designed to keep one of the hottest and driest cities in Iran cool), we’ll try the finest “Pashmak” (Persian cotton candy), maybe even a Camel burger, and check out performances of ancient martial arts set to funky drum beats. We won’t miss the incredible Zoroastrian Towers of Silence, we’ll even get an expert to teach us exactly how this city survives in the desert. And with two nights here, we have time for a day trip to explore an ancient abandoned town. Yazd has it all – and for some reason, the food here is really good (and we know the best places to take you).

In Yazd, your accommodation will be in an authentically restored classical Persian building. On day eight we’ll enjoy one last Yazd lunch, then take a short drive to a nearby historic town – I don’t want to list the name here, because it’s really special, there’s never any tourists around, and I want to keep it that way.

One night – Caravanserai, Iran

iran caravanserai tour

An ancient Silk Road inn or “Caravanserai”, is a truly amazing experience straight out of the long-gone days of old Persia. Wifi, not available, night skies, woah. Stargazers, romantics, and just those who need a tasty meal and a great rest, you’re going to love it here. We now have two different Caravanserai’s to choose from – both are exceptional – we’ll make our choice based on the time of year, and what’s on the home-cooked menu for dinner. No matter which Caravanserai we stay at, we have a special surprise that you won’t soon forget.

On day nine, we will make our way to Persepolis and Shiraz.

Three nights –  Shiraz/Persepolis, Iran

iran-visa

Shiraz. Cultural center of Iran, and our base until the end of your Iran tour. The last leg is a long drive – so we decided to make the journey shorter by stopping en route at the ancient city of Persepolis and the tombs of the Persian Kings at Naqsh-e Rustam. After an expert overview, you can explore Persepolis at your leisure. Eventually, you’ll be kicked out (after closing time), but your comfortable hotel with great shady outdoor areas is just a short walk away. Enjoy the sunset view with a cool drink, before getting a great nights sleep – you’ll be right in front of magnificent Persepolis.

shiraz tours iran

Refreshed and relaxed, the next morning we’ll head into Shiraz, and spend two more nights in the gem of Iran. We’ll take you to the best historic and modern sites around downtown, introduce you to our local friends, wake up early for the photo opportunity of a lifetime, and on our last night together enjoy a meal in my favourite restaurant in all of Iran (don’t worry, we’ll pay) – reminiscing about all the good times from our Iran tour, and tears, are optional… (sniff).

In Shiraz, we will stay at a centrally located, independently owned hotel – nearby to attractions, restaurants, cafes, chai-houses, and the Vakil Bazaar (great for last-minute souvenirs).

Day 12 –  Shiraz / Departure

After one last Persian breakfast, the final day is all yours. Whether you decide to stick around Shiraz some more, or just need us to organise your transport to the airport, we’ll be there for you. Hugs, high fives.

BONUS…

We promise you will see more than the list above. Our itinerary is not more detailed for several reasons – we want to keep some surprises, and we’ll always take advantage of any special events that may be happening in Iran at the time. We retain a level of flexibility to give you the best possible Iran experience –  and our guarantee is that you won’t miss anything “unmissable”. All Yomadic Iran tours are genuinely unique – we love touring Iran, this isn’t a “job” to us, we’ll enjoy the journey as much as you will.

Why the Yomadic Iran “UnTour”?

Iran Tour

Travelling independently to Iran is great – if you have, time, patience, and a big helping of local knowledge – but, you might miss some of the best secrets. I know – I’ve been in that situation. How do you find a good restaurant, or those places that don’t appear on the “tourist trail”? What should you really spend time seeing, and how do you get around? Would you like your transport to stop so you can take a photo, check out a market, or just take in the scenery? They won’t stop, for a photo, a cool drink, or just to take it all in, but we will.

Our Untour concept is simple – a small gang of like-minded travelers seeing the sights, cities, villages, deserts, and mountains worth seeing – and avoiding the tourist traps. And, we make sure you have time, freedom, and access to all the info you need – when you want it – to enjoy things your own way.

Of course, there are so many unmissable sites in Iran, and we’ll visit them – however, we won’t miss hanging out with the locals at hidden cafes and bazaars, checking out those lesser-known but totally post-card worthy places – that don’t appear on other itineraries – where local knowledge is essential.

Iran is incredibly alluring, but there’s a good reason so few tourists are around (for now). Despite the appeal, Iran seems just “too hard”. Unknown. Mysterious. Visa issues. Is it dangerous? (spoiler: no, Iran is very safe).

For many people, Iran remains forever a dream. We have the solution – we take the best aspects of independent travel, and subtly wrap it inside a curated, but flexible, Iranian itinerary.

This, is the Yomadic “Untour”.

iran tour shiraz vahid
Our main guide in Iran (a friend so dear I call him my brother), dressed-up to visit Grandma, and wearing her slippers. Our group enjoyed a cup of tea and a slice of cake at his Grandmother’s house in Shiraz, taking in a view of the local sites.

Inclusions – Yomadic Iran Tours

We include more than all other comparable Iran tours. Of which, there are none. But, we’ve researched our “competition” and we’ll gladly help you compare – we’re certain our value substantially exceeds all others.

Transportation

We have our own private transport. Modern, spacious, comfortable, air-conditioned, and provided by a well-reputed local company. Our own hand-picked local drivers are safe, experienced, and friendly. Which reminds me, I need to send photo’s to one of our Iranian drivers and his wife, their first child was just born.

Public transport in Iran is an experience – maybe we’ll take the Tehran subway, catch a bus in Shiraz, and you will need at least one Iranian taxi ride. However, to efficiently get around Iran, reliable private transportation is a must – along with a calm and professional driver.

Accommodation

Perfectly located, comfortable, helpful staff, good breakfast, with the fastest WiFi possible. We lean towards variety – from cozy, local, family owned traditional accommodation in Kashan, to stylish hotels in Tehran, your own apartment for a few nights in Isfahan (to really feel like a local), our hotel in Yazd is known as a living museum, and of course one remarkable, ancient, silk-road, caravanserai. We personally hand-pick every hotel, we’ve stayed in them all multiple times, and shared rooms have a maximum of two guests in total.

We’ll avoid franchised hotels, hostels, and typical tourist hotels – we want authenticity, and a good night’s rest.

Meals

OK, I love Persian food and great restaurants. So, all Yomadic tours include breakfast and lunch every single day. Order whatever you like, it’s all included. Usually, we’ll be sitting down at a restaurant (we know the best local joints in each city), but hey, we don’t mind the occasional picnic. Hearty, local, fresh, with plenty of variety, and, we’ll take care of your dietary requirements. Note: we include tea, coffee, desserts (and deserts), juices, bottled water, and more, but alcohol isn’t served on the Iran tours. Them’s the rules.

Although we’d feel awkward not paying for one amazing final dinner, most nights, we’ll leave you to make your own food decisions – dine at the finest in the city, join us at a local hole-in-the-wall, hit the street-food – it’s always your choice. Either way, our local knowledge will point you in the right direction.

Visa Assistance

We’ll use our well-experienced team to assist you with obtaining your Iran tourist visa – for citizens from the USA, Canada, England, Australia, the EU, New Zealand, and more. We do not charge any fee for visa assistance. UPDATE: currently there are no problems for USA citizens in obtaining Iran visas.

And more inclusions…

Free airport pickup and transfer to your hotel on arrival. Entrance fees to any attraction we visit. Coffee and cake. Snacks and drinks. Photography tips. Introductions to our local friends. We’ll help you out with customs, cultures, and currency exchange. Fireworks. Whatever we can think of to help you experience the best possible. Oh, and of course, myself (Nate), Phillipa, and our friendly and laid-back Iranian guides, are always available. As well as our local friends who come-and-go along our journey. Our goal is to make our Iran tours incomparably great value, we won’t skimp on inclusions, there really are no “added extras”.

Solo Traveler? Great!

Unless you prefer your own room, you don’t need to pay a “single supplement”. You’ll have people around when you like, and your own time to explore when you need it. Male, female, solo, couples, friends – you’ll be surrounded by a gang of like-minded souls. It takes a certain type of person to travel to Iran – you’ll have more in common with the gang than you would believe, and we’ll take care of you like family.

Why trust Yomadic?

Sounds amazing, but you’re still unsure about putting your trust with Yomadic?

  • We’re proven, competent, tour operators. We know how to travel, and we know how to organise a journey. We’ve been running Iran tours since 2014, and spending time on-the-ground in Iran since 2012. We only employ qualified, professional, friendly, local guides, drivers, and assistants.
  • You can always talk to us – contact and ask for the number, or if you prefer, we’ll call you.

During that time, the Washington Post, USA Today, the Sunday Times (in Australia and England), the Huffington Post, and Lonely Planet have featured the long history of travel knowledge found right here. These are some of the world’s most well-regarded publishers and travel companies, and I’m happy to have worked with them.
  • We have genuine on-the-ground knowledge, experience, and local contacts, throughout Iran. Each year, we spend many months on-the-ground in Iran – running tours and furthering our relationships with our contacts and partners. We stay-up-to-date with all things Iran and continue to provide the utmost in reliability, security, value, and of course – fun.
  • Yomadic Iran tours only utilise the services of well-established and reliable local partners. And, we’ve got backup plans – spare transportation, a team of drivers and guides, and plenty of local friends and contacts. In all cases, we never take shortcuts – we have an eye on safety, security, and reliability at all times. Yomadic is small and independent – but we act with professionalism. Your travel experience, is our reputation.
Sounds good, right?

Our Iran tours sell-out fast – and a big reason for that is a high number of repeat-trippers and personal recommendations. These kinds of travel opportunities don’t come along often, and I wish the list below could be longer – but then it wouldn’t be quite so special. I hope you can join us, we would love to show you Iran.
